Hi everyone!
I know it is probably the wrong time of year for most of you, but here in Bluebell Oaks we are heading into Winter. I noticed that Myriam Chantilly was looking a little chilly in her cotton dress, which wasn't standing up to the Autumn winds very well. She asked if I knew how to make a jacket, and that got me thinking.
I spent many hours of the past few nights trying to get the perfect pattern(perhaps when I should have been studying for a Social Studies test!) Anyway, with the help of my mum we finally created a pattern based on an official sylvanian jacket.
(These measurements are only approximate. This pattern fits a regular adult figure, although it may depend how thick the clothes are they are already wearing)
This is only the front part of the pattern. What you do, is fold the paper or fabric in half, and trace from the top of the shoulders, like this:
Unfolded, the pattern should look something like this:
Then, Myriam got to choose her favourite colour of felt.
After tracing the pattern onto the purple felt, you sew down the edges, of course, leaving a hole for the sleeves.
Turn it round the other way so the stiches are hidden, and the jacket is pretty much finished. I just sewed on some miniature buttons for a nice touch, and snipped a small cut up the back for her tail. Felt sticks quite well to itself, so I didn't bother sewing any velcroe on the front. Myriam is delighted with her new coat.
I have passed on the pattern to Mrs Bramble, who is keen to start making some of her own right away. No doubt hers will be much neater and better than mine!
The jacket does look perhaps abit bulky, but then, winter clothes aren't really made for glamour, are they?
By the way, I am happy for this pattern to be used for personal use, but not for commercial gain. Please respect my hard work.
:)
Hi Kelsie!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely winter coat! No wonder Myriam is delighted with it. Wonderfully done!
I don't know how to sew, but if I ever start learning, I'll give your pattern a try for sure! Looks easy enough, with great results! :)
Thank you!
Thank you very much for your comment Ayrell and the kind words! I'm glad you like it. I have been a little bit overwhelmed with orders from the village from residents all requesting their own new jackets! Thank goodness Mrs Bramble has stepped in to help me out!
DeleteGood luck if you ever do start sewing! Thanks again for your comment!
Hi Kelsie!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for sharing this tutorial. I´ve always wanted to have some warm clothes for my sylvanians to wear in winter and this coat is just perfect.
I´m a bit useless at sewing but at first sight your coat seems easy enough to make.
Myriam looks lovely , the colour really suits her !Great job!
I´ll definitely give it a try. Hopefully some of my sylvanians won´t be cold when winter arrives. They won´t need coats for a while, though. It´s starting to get quite warm at this time of the year, just the opposite for you and your sylvanians.
Have a nice weekend!
Hi Cutata! Thank you for your lovely comment!
DeleteYou are most welcome! I have found most Sylvanian Families to be a bit lacking in warm winter clothes. They generally come in cotton dresses and shirts-not very suitable for keeping out the cold.
I am also pretty bad at sewing, but I found this coat not to require much difficult sewing.
I hope you and your sylvanians are enjoying the warm weather! Have a great rest of the weekend!
Hi Kelsie I love Myriam's jacket. It looks so cosy and is right up to date fashionwise with the colour and buttons. Well done, especially as you designed and sewed the jacket yourself. Hope you can cope with all the orders flowing in from the other Sylvanian villagers. No reason now for anyone to be cold. Well done. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela!
DeleteThanks for commenting! I glad you like the jacket! Myriam loves the purple colour, contrasted by the yellow buttons! She's glad you think she chose well!
Thankfully, Mrs Bramble has been taking most of the orders for me, otherwise, I'd have no time to do anything but sew tiny jackets!
Thank you for your reply Kelsie. I am surprised you have time to do all you do with all your other activities. The Sylvanian villagers are so blessed to have you watching over them and taking such good care of them.
DeleteHi Kelsie. Myriam looks great in her coat - well done! This pattern looks very simple - I might have to try it myself. Where did you get your tiny buttons? I have found some on ebay, but only metallic ones, not bright colours like this.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much GreyRabbit! Myriam is very happy with her look too!
DeleteI actually got my buttons from a local emporium, although I'm afraid they were rather pricey considering their small size and I agree that they are quite hard to come by! Apologies for not being able to help you further!
Have a lovely week!
